Michael Getty and Brian Vetruba of St. Louis celebrated their 10th anniversary June 26, 2013. Both work at Washington University; Michael as Assistant Dean and Brian as Germanic Studies Librarian. 

They met in January, 1993 as graduate students teaching German at Indiana University. Their common love of languages, science fiction and exploring other cultures brought them together. 

The couple has resided in Indiana, the San Francisco Bay Area, Toronto and settled in St. Louis in 2001, where they live with their dog. Brian and Michael were legally married on June 26, 2003 at city hall in Toronto and as a result were among the first gay American couples to be legally married in North America. Michael and Brian are both Jews-by-choice, having officially converted in 2009 and 2010 respectively. They became b’nai mitzvah on April 28, 2012 at Central Reform Congregation, where they both are active members.
