COHEN – 60th ANNIVERSARY
Published October 5, 2011
On a very hot Sunday, Aug. 19, 1951, Gerald (Jerry) and Marion Zuckerman were married by Rabbi Ephraim Epstein in the non-air conditioned sanctuary of Tpheris Israel (now Bais Abraham) Synagogue. (Shaare Zedek Synagogue, where they were members, was still under construction.) Marion had been a longtime member there since attending Hebrew school as a child. They spent their honeymoon in Atlantic City, N.J. and went to Pompton Lakes, N.J. where Jerry’s parents held a reception in their honor. After getting his degree in chiropody (now podiatry) from the Chicago College of Chiropody, the couple returned to St. Louis, where Jerry opened his first office in south St. Louis (where he is still in practice today). Jerry and Marion celebrated their 60th anniversary with their entire family while attending the marriage of their granddaughter, Lauren Mirowitz, in Philadelphia on July 3. The next day Lauren and her husband, David Zeitlin of Long Island, N.Y. hosted a family barbeque in honor of her grandparents’ anniversary. Family members present were the Cohens’ daughter, Ellen, and her husband and son, Howard and Eric Mirowitz, from Newport Beach, Calif.; their daughter Joyce and her husband Bob Olshan and sons Maayan and Dovran of Chesterfield and daughter Yonit of Chicago. Jerry and Marion’s son, Rabbi Howard and his wife, Gail, and children Ilana, Moriah and Caleb of Bennington, Vt. were also in attendance. Howard performed the marriage ceremony of his niece, Lauren, the day before.
