While working at the Harvey Kornblum Jewish Food Pantry, Trevor Schwartz noticed that there was always a shortage of peanut butter – an inexpensive source of protein. Son of Sharon Fivel and Steven Schwartz of Olivette, Trevor decided to do something about that.
He set a goal of collecting 300 jars of peanut butter. Unlike other collections, this one had a raffle attached to it to increase donations. For every large jar or two small jars donated, he gave each donor a chance to win an iPod Touch.
“I have learned that since there are so many causes for which people are seeking collection, it is not always easy to get the word out,” said Trevor. “I’ve learned a lot about marketing. I have promoted the drive on Facebook and handed out flyers at B’nai Amoona Religious School. I also asked all who donated to where a sticker to help promote the project.”
Over 300 jars of peanut butter were collected. The Jewish Food Pantry was thrilled when he delivered the jars. Trevor said that if felt really good to be able to help people.
The winner of the raffle was Lindsey Lundmerer, a member of Temple Israel and student at Ladue Middle School.
