Sam Schellenberg spent 103 hours at the Variety Club working with children who have physical and mental disabilities. Son of Laura and Joe Schellenberg of Chesterfield, Sam said, “I thought it would be nice to help kids have fun and experience the fun of life.”
Variety Club usually accepts volunteers from age 13 and older. But since Sam said he would help in any way needed, they let him in at age 12.
Two of the activities Sam participated in were swimming and art. “I felt this project was very important to the kids at the Variety Club,” said Sam, a student at Parkway Central Middle School. “This is probably the most fun they have all year. It was incredibly fun and I recommend this to anyone.”
