St. Louis’ own Karlie Kloss has introduced the newest member of her growing Jewish family. On Sept. 18, just days before Rosh Hashanah, Kloss and husband Joshua Kushner welcomed their first daughter, Rae Florence Kushner.
Kloss shared the news on Instagram, writing simply, “Welcome to the world Rae Florence 9.18.25” along with a photo of the newborn. Rae joins big brothers Levi Joseph, 4, and Elijah Jude, 2.

A name with history
The couple chose Rae in honor of Joshua Kushner’s grandmother, Rae (Reichel) Kushner, a Holocaust survivor whose story is well known within the family.
According to The Jewish Partisan Educational Foundation, Rae Kushner was born in Poland in 1923, Rae lost most of her family during the Nazi massacres in Novogrudok. She escaped the ghetto through a 600-foot tunnel and later joined the Bielski partisans in the forest, where she reunited with Joseph Kushner, the man she would marry. Together, they built a family after the war, including son Charles — father to Jared and Joshua Kushner. Rae’s legacy also lives on in the Rae Kushner Yeshiva High School in New Jersey.
A growing Jewish family
Back in March, Jewish Light reported that Kloss was expecting baby No. 3. The Webster Groves native, who converted to Judaism before her 2018 wedding, has often spoken about how much Jewish traditions like Shabbat mean to her family. She and Kushner, who wed in a Jewish ceremony, have made that heritage a visible part of their lives.
