Traditional Congregation offers scholar-in-residence weekend

Traditional Congregation invites the community to attend its annual Scholar-in-Residence Program Nov. 6 and 7.  Dr. Jeffrey Veidlinger, Director of the Borns Jewish Studies Program at Indiana University, will speak on “The Shtetl and the Avant-Garde.”

Following Shabbat services and kiddush luncheon, Dr. Veidlinger will present “Scenes From a Play by Avraham Goldfadn Dealing with Toldoz” (Avraham Goldfadn is the founder of the Yiddish Theater). On Saturday at 8 p.m., the topic is “Marc Chagall and Artists of the Russian Jewish Theater and Their History”; a (dairy) dessert reception follows.  On Sunday morning, brunch begins at 9:45 a.m, followed by Dr. Veidlinger at 10:30, speaking on “Voices From the Shtetl.”  There is no charge for the Shabbat program; Saturday night and Sunday morning events are $12/person.
