Sandal lovers have plenty of choices this spring when it comes to their favorite footwear.
Whether it is traditional sandals or slides, there’s a pair that fits almost any occasion. The biggest difference between sandals and slides is that sandals have a strap in the back of the shoe and slides do not, but both are largely lumped together as sandals.
ShoeLadue carries a wide variety of styles, especially for women. ShoeLadue carries shoes from brand names such as Donald J. Pliner, Mephisto, Taryn Rose, Aquatalia, Cole Haan, Arche, Dansko and Thierry Rabotin.
All of ShoeLadue’s products come from Europe, mainly Italy, Spain, Portugal and France. Prices range from $150 to $500.
“A lot of the time a cheap pair of shoes can last a long time, but they don’t give you the same fit,” said ShoeLadue owner Edward Curran. “Most of our shoes are hand-made. They aren’t made in mammoth factories where everything is made on a conveyor. It’s like my dad used to say, you get what you pay for.”
Curran said wedge heels are very hot. ShoeLadue has a variety of wedges including cork-wrapped, raffia-wrapped and stacked leather.
There are different types of sandals for different occasions. ShoeLadue carries flat-soled sandals mainly designed for casual, everyday use and heeled sandals for more formal events.
ShoeLadue Manager Joy Park Desloge said leather, metallic, animal print and nubuck have been very popular styles.
“Our customers are looking for shoes that are very comfortable, but stylish,” Park Desloge said.
ShoeLadue’s tagline is Euro comfort with a fashion edge.
“Our business is built around customer service,” Curran said. “We’re in our eighth year now and we have a lot of new customers, but we have a lot of customers who come in frequently.”
Melody Human, owner of Magnolia’s, said the One Sole shoe has been the hottest seller she has seen in years.
The One Sole is several different shoes in one. It can be a sandal, a slide or even a clog. The shoe features removable and adjustable straps to suit any personality or occasion.
“When you buy the shoe, you get a black strap and two additional ones,” Human said. “It’s like getting three different shoes in one.”
The One Sole is $120, with three different straps. Additional straps can be purchased for $13.99 to $29.99.
Human said there are straps for every personality and occasion. There is a special Cardinals strap that is Cardinal red with the famous STL in Austrian crystal. There are also special holiday straps, collegiate and university logo straps and personalized straps that allow the wearer to put any picture or photo on them. Customers can also monogram straps. Each strap makes the One Sole look like a completely different shoe.
Human said customers love the One Sole because of it’s versatility, comfort and travel ease.
“When you are packing, it’s like packing four or five shoes in the space of one,” Human said. “You pack the sole and the straps lie flat, so you don’t have to worry about smashing your shoes.”
Tonya Slinger, floor manager at Foot Solutions, said patent leather, crocs and shiny materials are very popular.
Foot Solutions carries Israel’s Naot and Germany’s Sinn Comfort brands. Prices range from $150 to $220.
Foot Solutions offers orthodics services. Slinger said they specialize in providing extra arch support for the flat-footed.
“There’s no extra cost for the orthodics service, but it does usually take a week,” Slinger said. “But they are so comfortable. You could go all day on your feet in our shoes.”
