Rainbow Village, a local non-profit that provides safe and affordable homes for people with developmental disabilities, recently received a $1.2 million gift from the estate of the late St. Louis philanthropist Edith L. Wolff.
Rainbow Village, which recently opened its 51st neighborhood home, plans to use the gift to purchase and rehabilitate more homes. The organization can now enable additional people with developmental disabilities to live in their own homes and be a part of the community.
“Mrs. Wolff recognized the importance of improving the quality of life for people with developmental disabilities, and because of her commitment, we at Rainbow Village can in turn use this significant gift to change the lives of so many in need of safe and affordable homes,” said Mike Rea, director of development and community relations for Rainbow Village. “We will take this show of confidence and do our best to improve the lives of our citizens with developmental disabilities, one person, one home at a time.”
Mrs. Wolf passed away in 2008 at the age of 93. She and her husband Alan, who died in 1989, owned Wolff Construction Co., developer and manager of commercial real estate for grocery stores and shopping centers throughout Missouri.
Rainbow Village focuses on providing neighborhood homes for people with developmental disabilities. Over 230 men and women live in Rainbow Village’s 51 homes. For more information please visit www.rainbowvillagestl.org.
