NCJW to celebrate 50 years of Couturier event

Anybody who loves fashion knows the one local event not to miss is the annual Couturier Sale hosted by the National Council of Jewish Women St. Louis at its Resale Shop at 295 N. Lindbergh Boulevard.
Not only can fashionistas in all shapes and sizes find great buys on gently worn designer clothes, shoes and accessories, but the money raised goes to help fund dozens of charitable projects supported by NCJW. Among these are its Back-to-School Store, which has outfitted more than 10,000 preschool and elementary school children for the past 11 years; the Wife Widow Woman support program, which has helped more than 600 widowed women; and Healing Hearts Bank, which provides microloans to victims of domestic violence to help them become more independent.
This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Couturier Sale, which will take place Nov. 6-8 at the Resale Shop. But to celebrate this milestone anniversary in high style, NCJW is throwing a cocktail party at the Contemporary Art Museum from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct 22.
“It’s amazing that this historic (Couturier) sale – the first of its kind – has lasted for 50 years and that we have a good many of the women who participated as chairs of the sale still here to be honored for their work,” says Phyllis Langsdorf, chair of the party.
Along with food and drink, the event will showcase pieces from local designers, feature a slideshow of 50 years of Couturier, and pay tribute to the amazing women of NCJW who have kept the Couturier Sale alive and thriving for the past 50 years. They truly are golden girls.
