Adam Rush, a Ladue Horton Watkins High School senior, earned a Superior (highest) Award in the JEA’s national Write-off competition for his news writing. The Journalism Education Association supports free and responsible scholastic journalism by providing resources and educational opportunities. Adam, son of Jason and Nancy Rush and the late Cynthia Rush, is the assistant regional manager and head copy editor for the Ladue high’s newspaper, Panorama. He will be attending the Missouri School of Journalism at the University of Missouri. Adam’s family attends Nusach Hari B’nai Zion. 

“G.I.F.T.E.D. Love” is a new book by Sheri Glantz, a member of Congregation Shaare Emeth. It is a compilation of photographs and snippets of wisdom to inspire thought, self-reflection and a road map for the happiness to which most people aspire within their relationships. It is available on Amazon and locally at Silver Lining in Town & Country.

Drs. Deborah Rubin and Gary Silverman were among 11 Washington University faculty members selected as fellows by the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Rubin, the William B. Kount professor of medicine at the School of Medicine, was selected for her contributions in gastroenterology research. Silverman, the Harriet B. Spoehrer professor and chair of the Department of Pediatrics at the School of Medicine, was chosen for his contributions to the field of medical science. Both will be honored during the society’s annual meeting in Washington, D.C. on Feb. 16. 

Sheryl and Mike (z”l) Bauer are recipients of the 2018 Irene Fox Ruach Award for their involvement and support of United Hebrew Congregation. Their efforts embody the spirit of the congregation. 

Laura Robbins has joined Midas Capital, an investment company specializing in hotel acquisition and development, as director of investor relations. She will be responsible for establishing potential investor opportunities, as well as strengthening existing client relationships. Robbins, a member of Temple Emanuel, will assist with raising capital, manage investor events, oversee communication strategies, and supervise marketing and research efforts.

The Thomas Jefferson Society paid tribute to Marylen Mann for her many contributions to the St. Louis region. Mann, a pioneer in the field of healthy aging and intergenerational learning, founded the OASIS Institute in 1982. The non-profit educational organization is active in 40 cities promoting healthy aging through lifelong learning, active lifestyles and volunteer engagement. At the Missouri Historical Society, Mann spearheaded museum education with innovative intergenerational activities and initiatives to inspire a nation of learners. The Thomas Jefferson Society is the Missouri Historical Society’s leadership donor group. She and her husband Frank Jacobs are members of Temple Israel and Central Reform Congregation.

Danny Lewin and the Deutsch Family were recently honored at the Raising the Bar for Lift for Life Gym celebration for their support of the organization. Lewin, manager of the Program Management office at Object Computing, has been a past president and board member for 10 years. David Deutsch, who represented his family at the event, has been involved with the gym for more than 12 years. Deutsch is executive vice president at Standard Machine & Manufacturing Co. and a member of Congregation Temple Israel. Lift for Life Gym provides St. Louis city children a safe, enriching after school environment offering services that are designed to help them achieve success. 

The St. Louis Press Club honored Ellen Soule with its Catfish Award, the highest honor given to a member for his or her contribution to the organization. Soule co-chaired this year’s Beauty Buzz event at Neiman Marcus, which raised $20,000 for local journalism scholarships. Ellen Soule is a Regional Merchandise Consultant with Misook and Ming Wang clothing lines. 

Steve Turner, principal with Solomon Turner PR in Chesterfield, has been named to the list of Publicist Rockstars by Authority Magazine as published on Medium.com. With 30+ years of experience in public relations and marketing, he is one of 20 PR professionals selected nationwide.

Cecelia Ann Fox was crowned Queen of Love and Beauty at the Veiled Prophet Ball. She is the daughter of Lotta and Jeffrey Fox, who attend Temple Israel, and is a sophomore in the business school at Tulane University. The Veiled Prophet Ball honors young women for their service to the community.

Marci Mayer Eisen, director of the Jewish Federation of St. Louis’ Millstone Institute and staff for JProStl, has become a certified Safe & Respectful Workplace trainer through Sepler & Associates. The training for Jewish organizations is a national initiative through B’Kavod, the Good People Fund and Jewish Women’s Foundation of New York.

Dr. Ira Kodner received the President’s Achievement Award from the Foundation for Barnes-Jewish Hospital. A colorectal surgeon and medical ethicist, Kodner is an emeritus professor of surgery at Washington University School of Medicine. The Barbara and Ira J. Kodner MD Endowed Fund for Surgical Ethics, has been established at the foundation to honor Kodner and his wife to support education, research and advocacy.
