Amidst the return of summer camps and, unfortunately, wildfires, Rick Recht, the executive director of JKids Radio, Jewish Rock Radio and Songleader Boot Camp, has picked a fitting tune for our latest Jewish Song of the Week.

For those who have missed our earlier stories, each week Recht selects a different song from the JKids Radio and Jewish Rock Radio online radio stations and tell us what he likes about it.

This week, Recht choose to feature a song from Charlie Kramer, who is legally blind from retinitis pigmentosa, and “utilizes his blindness as a tool to educate people on the importance of inclusion, equality and radical self-acceptance,” Kramer’s website states. “As the Founder and Creative Director of the blindfolded singing and healing experience, Singing in the Dark, Charlie helps others to face their challenges and uncover the many blessings within their lives through music and meditation.”

Here is what Recht writes about Kramer’s song “We Will Rise”:

“How INCREDIBLE has it been to see summer camps up and running this year?! Totally makes my heart full! Back in late 2018, when Southern California wildfires burned almost his entire camp to the ground, Charlie Kramer wrote this inspiring song, ‘We Will Rise,’ about resilience and how camp is MORE than just a physical place. He didn’t know how true this song would ring in 2020 and beyond. This one goes out to our resilient campers and staff who have kept the summer spirit alive! You ROCK!”
