Fundraiser planned for Gesher Music Festival

Musicians from New Jewish Theatre’s Gesher Music Festival presented by PNC Arts Alive, will perform at 8 p.m. Saturday, May 25 at the Tavern of Fine Arts, 313 Belt Ave (at Pershing) in the Central West End. The program is a fundraiser for the weeklong chamber music festival which runs from June 23 – 30. Music for the evening will include a combination of new pieces and standard repertoire with works by Kodaly, Haydn, Vali, Mozart and Jaeger, written for a combination of instrumentation including cello, violin and flute.
The Tavern of Fine Arts offers a full menu as well as wine, beer and other beverages. There is no charge for admission. Instead, performers receive a percentage of sales. For the fundraising event, patrons are encouraged to make contributions in addition to the cost of their food and beverage.
The Gesher Festival is a one-week program of chamber music that aims to find the connections between classical chamber music and the Jewish experience by featuring music written by Jewish and non-Jewish composers alike that has a connection to the Jewish perspective. The Festival musicians are emerging artists and young professionals just beginning their musical careers. performed by talented young professional musicians just at the beginning of their careers. While most of the Festival takes place in the Wool Studio Theatre of the JCC, the home of the New Jewish Theatre, this year the Festival is branching out to perform in other venues as well as the many outreach and community engagement efforts.
