Eight Months Post-Ferguson’ event focuses on solutions to racial, economic disparities

A free community program “Eight Months Post-Ferguson: The Journey from Recovery to Rebuilding” will be held 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, April 16 at the Sheet Metal Workers Local 36 Union Hall, 2319 Chouteau Avenue.
The program speakers include: Rev Starsky Wilson, President & CEO, Deaconess Foundation and Co-Chair, Ferguson Commission; Todd Swanstrom, Des Lee Professor of Community Collaboration and Public Policy at University of Missouri-St. Louis; and Gregory Carr, Sr., Professor at Harris-Stowe State University.
The panelists will speak about opening the communication and seeking sustainable approaches and solutions to what has been happening in the St. Louis community in recent months. They will explore ways to work together to understand and respond in meaningful ways. Individuals and organizations will be given specific steps to take in the months ahead.
“It is important to talk about the issues our community faces. This event aims to help participants find constructive ways to move forward in the recovery process,” said Lise Bernstein, President of Women’s Voices Raised for Social Justice.
The program is sponsored by National Council of Jewish Women-St. Louis Section, the Community Against Poverty program of the Jewish Community Relations Council of St. Louis, and Women’s Voices Raised for Social Justice.
