Screening of ‘Rosenwald’ 

The Ulysses S. Grant National Historic Site, 7400 Grant Road, will screen the documentary “Rosenwald” at 7 p.m. The film tells the story of Julius Rosenwald, who never finished high school, but rose to become the President of Sears. Influenced by the writings of the educator Booker T. Washington, this Jewish philanthropist joined forces with African-American communities during the Jim Crow South to build over 5,300 schools during the early part of the 20th-century. Film at Covenant Place

Covenant Place will screen “Spotlight” at 1 p.m. in the Milford and Lee Bohm Social Hall, lower level of Covenant II.  The Academy Award-winning film depicts the Boston Globe’s tenacious team of reporters delving into allegations of abuse in the Catholic Church. Health discussion at Covenant Place

NHBZ hosts lunch & learn

Rabbi Ze’ev Smason of Nusach Hari B’nai Zion will discuss “Five Torah Tips for Today’s Graduates.” NHBZ will also honor new graduates from preschool through advanced degrees on this “Graduation Shabbat” celebrating all who have recently reached major milestones. Services begin at 9 a.m. in the main sanctuary, and Tefillah/Prayer Learners’ Service, led by Rabbi Yosef David of Aish HaTorah, will be in the chapel at 9:30 a.m. Smason will lead a Learners’ Service at 10:15 a.m. in the chapel. The Lunch & Learn will begin after services at approximately noon. Babysitting is available for younger children. This events is free and open to the public. No RSVP required. NHBZ Family Shalosh Seudos

Rabbi Yosef and Mimi David of Aish HaTorah St. Louis will be the guest speakers at NHBZ’s new Family Shalosh Seudos Program. This family-friendly Shabbat afternoon event will be at 7 p.m. Rabbi David will lead a discussion for men and Mimi David will present a women’s class. Mincha will be at 7:45 p.m., with both family and adult services offered. Everyone will then gather for Shalosh Seudos. Membership at NHBZ is not required to participate in this program. Mental health speaker at Kol Rinah

‘Shedding Light on Alzheimer’s:  A Jewish Perspective’ 

The Alzheimer’s Association and the St. Louis Rabbinical Association will present “Shedding Light on Alzheimer’s: A Jewish Perspective,” from 9 a.m. to noon Sunday, June 5 at the Jewish Community Center Arts and Education Building, 2 Millstone Campus Drive. The program aims to discuss Judaism, Jewish life and Alzheimer’s disease. The program will feature presentations from Rabbi Richard Address, founder and director of Jewish Sacred Aging; and Dr. George Grossberg, Professor in the Department of Neurology and Psychiatry at St. Louis University.There will be an opportunity after the program to ask questions and visit information booths. Jewish Environmental Initiative sponsors Cardinals Green Team event

Jewish Environmental Initiative (JEI), a committee of the Jewish Community Relations Council, will hold a St. Louis Cardinals Green Team volunteer effort at 1:15 p.m. at Busch Stadium as the Cardinals play the Giants. Volunteer with the Cardinals green team should arrive an hour before game time. Participants will collect recyclables from fans between innings and also get to catch some of the game in the process. Crown Center 50th anniversary  celebration event

At 2 p.m. Crown Center will celebrate its 50th anniversary with music from the 1950s, ’60s and ’70s, a timeline and photos of Crown’s last 50 years, as well as apartment tours, photo booth, intergenerational activities, cake and ice cream. NHBZ Sisterhood Lunch/Fashion Show

Ladies are invited to enjoy an afternoon of delightful food, music and fashion at NHBZ’s Sisterhood Lunch and Fashion Show at 11:30 a.m.  at the shul. The day includes a luncheon and a fashion show featuring stylish colorful clothing and accessories for the warm months ahead. The Alzheimer’s Association Caregiver Support Group will meet from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Monday, June 6 and from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 15 at the Adult Day Center at the Jewish Community Center, 2 Millstone Campus Drive. This monthly support group is sponsored by the Alzheimer’s Association in collaboration with the J and led by a trained facilitator. Men’s Event to benefit NCJW’s Back To School! Store

National Council of Jewish Women-St. Louis Section will hold its second annual Men’s Event, benefitting NCJW’s Back To School! Store. The Men’s Event takes place  at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 7 at Cardwell’s in Clayton, 8100 Maryland Ave., to watch the Cardinals take on the Cincinnati Reds. While there, guests can mingle with friends, check out the sports memorabilia silent auction and help under-served kids in the community get ready for school. Life in Transition group 

The next Life in Transition group will meet from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Congregation Temple Israel, #1 Rabbi Alvan D. Rubin Drive, and is for individuals who are coping with the loss of a loved one, divorce, job transition or retirement. Attendees will discuss a healthy grieving process, resolution, adjustment and strategies for moving forward and finding fulfillment. CRC’s June University Series focuses on meditation

On Tuesdays in June, Central Reform Congregation’s June University Series will feature Andy Nunberg, who will teach a course on “The Wisdom of Meditation,” from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The series is free and open to the community.  Nunberg will facilitate discussions on topics including “What is Meditation?” “The Seer and the Scenery,” and “So What! Importance of Spiritual Dispassion.” Each session will include a meditation and it is not necessary to attend all the sessions. Nunberg received his Ph.D. in molecular biology and learned meditation while doing postdoctoral research in St. Louis. By 2005, he completed his training as a meditation instructor.

Crown Center trip to Jewish Film Fest

Crown Center will lead a trip to the Jewish Film Festival to view “Rabin in His Own Words” at 1 p.m. This  unique documentary is told almost entirely in Rabin’s own voice. Included are archival footage, home movies and private letters from his life. Robert A. Cohn, Editor-in-chief Emeritus of the Jewish Light, will introduce the film. Jewish Federation will kick off its “Vibe with the Tribe,” series on June 9 with Kibitz with Karen Kalish, Founder of Home Works, Books & Badges and Cultural Leadership. Temple Israel hosts ‘Sizzlin Summer Family Shabbat’ 

Congregation Temple Israel is hosting its annual Sizzlin’ Summer Family Shabbat BBQs to celebrate the warm summer months and enjoy Shabbat with casual family worship and barbecue dinners. The first event takes place Friday, June 10 (another is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 12) at 1 Rabbi Alvan D. Rubin Drive. The cost is $10 per family. Community Family Shabbat Picnic for families with young children

Join the Jewish community for a family Shabbat picnic at Shaw Park – North Shelter at the Treetop Playground. Families with young children are invited to recite Shabbat prayers and enjoy challah and grape juice. Community Shavuot Torah Study

Five congregations have partnered to plan an all-night Community Shavuot Torah Study, held at Bais Abraham Congregation, 6910 Delmar Blvd. in University City. The event starts with Mincha at 8 p.m., Maariv at 9, candle lighting and dinner at 9:15. All night study takes place from 10:30  p.m. to 4:30 a.m. A special children’s study session will be held from 10:30 to 11:30 p.m.  Sponsoring congregations are Bais Abraham Congregation, Central Reform Congregation, Kol Rinah, Shir Hadash Reconstructionist Community, and Congregation Neve Shalom. Sharsheret Supports Circle

The Sharsheret Supports Circle will meet to offer support to women in the St. Louis Jewish community who have been diagnosed with breast or ovarian cancer and are anywhere along their treatment path – before, during, or post treatment.  These casual get-togethers are designed to encourage connections with networks of peers, health professionals and related resources.  Each session includes an opportunity to share and connect with other participants. Author Walter Shapiro discusses ‘Hustling Hitler’

Meet Me St. Louis welcomes journalist/author Walter Shapiro for a discussion of his book, “Hustling Hitler,” at 7 p.m. at The Stage at KDHX, 3524 Washington Ave. Shapiro’s book tells the true story of his great-uncle—a Jewish theatrical impresario and exuberant con man—who managed to cheat Hitler’s agents in the run-up to World War II. Interfaith Shabbat at Temple Israel

On Friday, June 17 at 6:30 pm, in addition to the traditional weekly Shabbat service, Congregation Temple Israel will recognize the life of the late Dr. Harry M. Offenbach, a long-time member of Temple Israel who was also very active in the St. Louis Jewish community. Offenbach pursued interfaith understanding both locally and nationally throughout his career. Guest speaker Dr. Ghazala Hayat will  discuss the importance of interfaith understanding within the Jewish and Muslim communities. Hayat is a leader of Interfaith Partnership, the Islamic Foundation of Greater St. Louis and a recipient of JCRC’s Norman A. Stack community relations award.

Jewish War Veterans St Louis Heritage Post 644 will hold its annual picnic at 4 p.m. until dusk in Stacey Park in Olivette. Jewish seniors stadium tour

Jewish Seniors on the MOVE, a new program for St. Louis Jewish seniors enjoy day trips, tours, food, and friends, will host a lunch at Cardinals Nation and Busch Stadium tour, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Transportation to and from the event and the cost for lunch are included in the admission price of $18 (payment preferred in advance). NJT presents ‘Yentl’

New Jewish Theatre will present “Yentl,” the play about a Polish-Jewish girl who dresses like a boy in order to study holy teachings in a yeshiva, through June 5.
